'Strait on the Beach Cafe'
What a delightful location for live music, I was strolling on the beach and was drawn to the band who were playing at the cafe.
I really enjoyed the music from the musicians and the great setting, all I can say is I will return to further enjoy the ambience at this lovely spot.
We stumbled on Straight on the Beach one evening, just looking for a quiet late afternoon beer. We were met by Ronnie and had a fantastic evening in the rustic surroundings, looking out over the water. We stayed for the sunset, with more beers with Ronnie.
Needless to say, we made sure that after a full day's sight seeing we headed for Straights almost every night of our 2 week stay.
The staff were all friendly and extremely helpful and Ronnie was a geat source of local knowledge on the best places to visit; not all of which were the usual tourist destinations.
The true charm of this establishment is the beautiful graden terrace bar on the waters edge. Please keep it a secret - its far too good to be turned into a tourist mecca.
And lastly, for those who have ever wondered what happened to Gilligan when he was rescued from the island of castaways - he alive and well and running the bar at Striaght on the Beach.
We will definately be back to see our mate and enjoy a few late afternoon beers with Gilligan.
Recently had a sunday breakfast / brunch at "Stait on the Beach" Cafe at Holloways Beach - The atmosphere was relaxed and we sat and ate our breakfasts to the sound of the waves rolling in (approx. 4 metres from the waters edge!!). Fantastic views and scenery.
The service was friendly and our order only took about 10 mins - the staff were quite happy to cater for a vegatarian (unlike other cafes in the area) breakfast was YUM!
Our family spent the 2009 Thanksgiving week in Cairns. We were greeted with a tremendous warmth and kindness at Strait on the Beach.
The food was awesome as so my family ate there every day. Ron was a pleasure and we felt like he was part of our family and will be a true friend always.
The atmosphere and service was outstanding and my children fought over the "Hand" chairs. We always had to get that particular table. The views and cool beach breezes will always be something to remember. This will be a repeat location for us.
THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES RON!
Had a great lunch ...
Dick .... et al have had great day, tankyou very much................ery much.
loved the WA wine Ron ... good stuff.
cheers and plenty more beers

We drove from Cairns two days in a row to breakfast under the palm trees. Shimmering ocean, white sand, kookaburras and parrots We were there at 7.30 so it was empty and silent. As vegans we usually have trouble eating out but tehy were quite happy to make tomato sandwich and beans on toast. Both garnished with parsley( a nice touch at breakfast). The service was efficient and friendly. The cafe has atmosphere, tropical thatch, trees and free form wooden tables. We have worked , lived in and visited much of the world and Strait on the Beach is unique. We will return.
I live in Holloways beach ((yes i know , lucky huh?)) and have had the chance to eat there a few times.. the location in top notch, right on the waterfront , no matter the weather its stunning, the furnishings are very tropical and unique, which adds to the atmosphere, and as for the food, well its fabulous. always very tasty and large servings... but as for their customer service, well that leaves alot to be desired.. the young girls there obviously dont want to b there and are working simply coz they have to, and they senior staff dont exactly lead by example.. so my suggestion would b to stick with the take-away and go onto the beach itself and have a picnic as there is nothing worse than feeling uncomfortable while u are trying to enjoy a meal... but like i sed.. the food is gr8..
I'd go to Far North Queensland just o have breakie here.. food was great and reasonably priced, service was spot on.
Since I like the place to myself, and enjoy reading the paper, please dont come here as it never seems to get crowded and I'd like to keep it that way. Mind you last time I was there it looked like the secret was out : )
The setting for this cafe is amazing, the dining area set out beautifully.
The breakfast meals are of a reasonable price.
Unfortunatly most of the food is precooked and left to stay warm on the grill plate, this was not the worst part.
The chef was also waitressing and made a mistake with our order.
Had she been polite the expreience would have been nice but all i can say politely was that she was disgustingly rude to my friends and i.
I do not reccommend this cafe until they review their customer relations.
We visited Strait on the Beach last weekend whilst staying over the road at Cairns Beach Resort.
The cafe is right on the beach and tables and chairs are made from tops of trees and driftwood that has been sanded and polished. Very unusual.
My son had the bacon & eggs with fried tomatoe and toast which was a generous serving. I had rasin toast and a latte which was very good.
However the setting steals the show as you are looking out over the beach and the water right on the sand. I understand they are also open for lunch and early dinner and they had a bar so they must be licenced as well. They also have petrol and general supplies as well, so they are handy.
We will breakfast there again on our next trip in a few weeks.
Have your say...
