Absolutely awesome, great vibe and great service. Everytime I have been there. Free live music which is always great to see up and coming live talent. Even if you pop in for a beer and some cheap tapas, make sure you go!

Birthday celebration on Saturday night. A bunch of cynical locals disappointed at over priced food and poor service in the city. Wow! Havana Music Cafe was a very pleasant surprise. Caribbean food was new to our group so we tried a bit of everything. Fresh, spicy and beautifully presented. Brett the owner suggested the Prawns with marinated dominican tomato sauce (his personal favourite) as a main course. Traditional jerk chicken, Jamican BBQ Pork cooked on Barbq grill, with a variety of chutneys and sauces, fresh mango chutney, pineapple and cucumber relish as a mixed entree.

Dave was playing guitar and contributed to the excellent atmosphere. If you want a new experience with great hospitality and excellent food, give it a try. Parking convenient in Lake Street and short walk from the movie theatre. A Mojito was unique drink with Brett's special secret extra liquor to make it just a bit different. We had a good evening and it's great to see restaurants catering to locals as well as our visitors. We will be back soon, many thanks to Brett and staff.

Hey we were there at Easter time and it was brilliant, the Derringers are a very talented group of guys and the food that Brett dishes out of the kitchen is some of the best that we had in Australia!

Have been to Havana's twice and loved it -- great atmosphere, super friendly staff, great food (portions on the small side), and both times they had very talented musicians singing/performing. Sit outside if you have a larger group as it can get noisy between the performers and other partons -- I had a really hard time hearing anybody as the evening wore on -- but it's worth it for the great atmosphere :) Definitely recommended!

Dropped in for a quick lunch and stayed for well over an hour chilling out and listening to the great music (will be buying the Katchafire albums when we get back home!) - food was excellent (we had the lunch taster special which gave us an all-round flavour of the menu).

Wish we had found it the first day we were in town rather than a few hours before flying back to the UK because we would definitely have gone there again. Brett was great to talk to and loves his retaurant and his music - couldn't be a better combo!

We enjoyed The Havana Music Cafe while in Cairns in July, 2011. One of the best meals we had! Hubby had spear fish and it was lovely! I had marinated prawns and pumpkin and bean emplanadas from their tapas menus and both were delicious!! The host/manager/owner? was so friendly and helpful! Wish I were ther now!

Great atmosphere and music, nice staff, good food, I love the "tentadores". The only problem is, it can get a bit too warm, and there is no air con.

Visited the Havana Music Cafe again on Thursday and had a great time. Lots of people and live music from The Derriingers - Benson Gunner and Ryo Montgomery - on two acoustic/electric guitars, no vocals.

They did a whole range of classy music and even managed to play four-handed on one guitar (imagine how difficult that is!). Their version of Mr Sandman is sticking in my mind. Also the nutmeg cheesecake we finished off with.

Isn't it nice we have something up here that the southern culture vultures can be jealous of?

We had a great evening at the cafe yesterday. Wonderful food, and such enthusiasm from all the guys. Nice to meet people who really care about giving their customers the very best.

Definitely this place will be a regular stopover on our trips down from Cooktown.

Had the curry crab and it was amazing. Took a long time to eat and it was a bit messy but it was worth it. Going back again soon.
