Bistro 3
La Cucina makes the most of the wonderful seafood caught around Port Douglas, incorporating it into their meals along with other fresh tropical ingredients. A relaxed and informal dining experience, great for the whole family. This restaurant was formerly known as Sassi Cucina.

What people are saying...
We had a great meal here last night. The food and service was excellent, they were great with the little ones. Good kids menu. All 6 of us really enjoyed the food & wine - so many really nice things it took a while to choose what we wanted to eat.
My wife & I have been visiting Port Doudlas for more than 15 years. Our most recent trip was for 4 months from mid-May 2006. During that time we dined at least ten times at La Cucina and each visit was a culinary delight. The menu was not large but then most people, apart from the locals, are toursist and would probably visit twice at the most. The staff are excellent but not condescending, the wine list is very good and the service is very good but not intrusive. Nothing is too much trouble and they are very good at remembering faces. A trip to Port Douglas would be incomplete without at least on breakfast, one lunch and one dinner - finishing off with their special affogato!

went to sassi's back in October 2003 - it was an experience never to forget. Im off to PD again this October and i cant wait to dine there again. One of the best PD restaurants for sure. Menu superb and the service was excellent
Returned to visit Sassi after 15 years. Never forgot the first experience. Dined at Sassi Melbourne when he returned to the city. Our second visit to P.D. was just as good.
My husband and I enjoyed the meals at Sassi Cucina so much that we dined twice during our short stay in May 2005. I simply cannot forget the Basil ice cream. Absolutely divine!
Exquisite cocktails, delicious and tasty food with outstanding presentation. 2nd time lucky!
My partner & I ate and drank at Sassi after Carnivale and loved it! It's so swish and funky, as well as having great food. Although we only had 'bar munchies', they're nothing like what most people would think of when considering bar munchies... and the cocktails satisfied even my most discerning tastes.

Very disappointing reception for group of 6 including 2 children. Condescending front of house needs to get off high horse and realise every customer is valuable. Turning people away because they have children in the group is not acceptable. I don't think any restaurant in this part of the world can afford to turn people away when more than 4 tables empty and suggesting we'd be better suited to a pub is really low.
